MASSAGE / BODYWORK
Does it really cost too much?
Studies are continuing to show that there are many health benefits from regular massage and bodywork. It increases circulation, moving more oxygen and nutrients into our tissues and organs. That improves mood, easing depression, and improves digestion. That flow relaxes and softens injured and overused muscles, reduces spasms and cramping, and increases joint flexibility and range of motion.
Massage provides atrophied muscles, exercise and stretching, reducing muscle shortening. Recovery time improves and helps prepare the body for strenuous workouts. Eliminates subsequent pains of the athlete at any level, by releasing endorphins, the body's natural painkiller. This also improves the state of chronic illness or injury, and shortens recovery time and pain from surgery. Post-surgery adhesions and edema are reduce and that scar tissue can be realigned.
Massage decreases discomfort for patients with low back pain. Assists with shorter labor for expectant mothers as well as less need for medication, less depression and anxiety, and shorter hospital stays. Who wouldn’t want that?
Massage is real help for migraine sufferers, reducing the need for medication. I know this one from personal experience. The flow of lymph, the body's natural defense system, against toxic invaders, is increased. In breast cancer patients, massage is seen to increase the good cells that fight cancer.
